I hate to share this, but I love watching infomercials. And I've ordered more than once from them! Everything from weight loss products to cell phone accessory's.

When pressed, my friends admit the same. If you sniff around most people's homes, you'll find something ordered from an infomercial, whether it's the Ronco Rotisserie or Victoria Principal's skincare.

You may think of these often annoying programs as "trash TV", but think again. Did you realize that they use many of the exact same strategies that we should?

Now, I don't mean you need to scream at your customers or flash "$19.95" in blinking digits on your website! Those are gimmicks.

But what most people don't realize is that many of the strategies that sell the kitchen doohickey gadget are the same ones that can also sell your products and programs.

Here are 7 of my favorites:

1. They grab your attention.

Infomercials air on the most challenging medium there is out there: television. You're just a second away from your prospect clicking their remote to the next channel. So they do their best to get your attention right away and KEEP it for as long as possible.

That's why infomercials give bold statements and emphasize how this doohickey will change your life. You should do this too -- stop beating around the bush and make it clear to your prospects how your products and services will change *their* lives!

2. They give tons of real-life testimonials.

You'll see that TV infomercials have evolved greatly since years ago. It used to be one or two people talking to a camera for the entire time. These days most typical 30 minute spots are over 80% customer testimonials! And that's for good reason... they are the hands-down BEST way to gain instant credibility.

A great example is for one of those home exercise machines. I noticed years ago they just showed the super-ripped guy using it on the infomercial. Now they show that guy, PLUS dozens of before and after testimonials from real-life guys with beer bellies and real jobs who used the product with success. That was a great move on their part, because c'mon, we never really believed that super-ripped guy looked like that from using it just 30 minutes, 3 times a week!

3. They use personalities.

The most successful infomercials now use celebrity guest hosts. They know this gets people's attention more than practically anything out there. Pro Activ uses Jessica Simpson. Youthful Essence (a skincare product women love) uses Susan Lucci. Even NutriSystem is now using Dan Marino in their commercials to target men.

You can do the same in your marketing. You can either hire a star, or even better, make YOURSELF the celebrity... by sharing stories, being personal, and having fun with your market.

4. They give an irresistible offer.

It's rare these days to see an infomercial asking for you to pay for something in full. You'll mostly see things like "3 payments of $19.95" or "4 payments of $39.95". Why? Cash-crunched Americans are always more concerned about cash flow than the total price. They'll even happily pay much MORE in the end in order to gain a lower monthly payment!

You can do the same. Offer a payment plan for your products, courses, workshops, and coaching. You'll be AMAZED at the increased response, and it's easy to do with marketing-savvy shopping cart systems.

5. They give a strong call-to-action NOW.

These folks know that as soon as you change the channel, you're going to forget about their product. So they make it very urgent that you pick up the phone and call them now or visit their website and order. They usually say something like "If you call in the next 10 minutes you also get..." and they list a few great bonuses.

This isn't just specific to TV. Everyone would rather put off ANY decision these days, we're all so busy and overwhelmed! So you need to give people a good REASON to act now, whether it's a discount that expires, a payment plan that expires, a limited number of products or seats, a special bonus... you get the idea.

6. They sell on continuity.

What's "continuity"? It's when you make ONE sale that results in multiple charges over and over. For example, because my Wife Rosie's friends have been raving about I.D. Bare Minerals natural makeup, she recently ordered a kit from their infomercial. Now, every 2 months, she receive a fresh supply in the mail, and my card is charged again. She love's it because she doesn't have to remember to reorder. They love it because they only had to make ONE sale, and how they've got me as a customer forever until I cancel!

Hear me now... continuity will change your life! Consider how you can use this principle in your business. Could you convert some of your current offerings into a monthly membership? Or instead of doing one-shot teleseminars, create an ongoing monthly program? (I did this with my Premium Managed Marketing and SEO Campaign's .)

7. They repeat themselves. And repeat themselves.

And repeat themselves again! Smart marketers know it takes an average of 9 TIMES for someone to see/hear your message BEFORE they will even consider purchasing! That goes for you too. So many of my clients complain that advertising doesn't work when they only ran one ad ONCE. Or published ONE newsletter and it didn't get them results.

Remember it's the ongoing exposure and repetition that breeds familiarity and trust with your prospects! And that leads to more sales than you've ever imagined.

12. 3 Success Principles That Have Reshaped My Business

Over the past 15 years I've immersed myself in learning. Because my business is marketing, I have attended many and spoken at marketing seminars when I was younger. But I also make plenty of time to read books, attend seminars, and listen to audio programs on personal development as well.

Why?

You should actually work harder on yourself than you do on your business (or job). I first learned that from Jim Rohn, whom some call the father of personal development. Some call him America's foremost business philosopher. I just call him brilliant. (Jim was one of Tony Robbins' first mentors, too.)

There are three success principles I've learned over the years that I wanted to share with you. I call them my "a-has" because they put my attention on areas I'd never thought of. And following these guidelines has helped me skyrocket my business.

1. You are the average of the five PEOPLE you hang around the most.

When I first heard this quote from Jim, it struck a big nerve in me. Robert Allen says something similar, that your bank account balance is typically the average of the five people you hang around the most. (Yikes!)

I realized I needed to surround myself with people whom I wanted to be like. I still love my old friends, but I make a specific effort to be around people who take risks, think big, and talk about great ideas instead of the latest celebrity gossip, the price of gas, or how much they hate their clients.

What first opened up my circle of influence was attending seminars. I continually go to seminars on marketing, business, and personal development. There are so many great seminars going on every month all around the country, at all price points. You have no excuse not to get out there and meet people who are playing big!

2. Your HABITS create your future (and your fortune).

I like to talk a lot about this. Your daily habits create your long-term results. Your habits today will determine your outcomes tomorrow. If you want to be a millionaire, you've got to have millionaire habits. If you want to be a great leader, you must have the habits of a great leader. If you want to get in shape, you've got to have the habits of a fit person.

What new habit can YOU put into place right away?

I wanted to put into place a millionaire habit. Because I detest budgets (and enjoy spending), I needed an easy way to save money. So now I have a set percentage of my inflow automatically go into a savings account that I don't touch.

3. Make sure your ENVIRONMENT supports you in playing big.

A few years ago I had the chance to hear a dynamic woman named Artemis Limpert speak. In her talk, she pointed out that when you have a pet fish that's sick, you treat the water -- NOT the fish.

Your success depends more on your environment than you know, but it's extremely important that you give yourself an environment that supports you at the level you want to BE at. (Note that I did NOT say the level you are at now!)

There are 3 areas of your environment you should pay close attention to:

First, your physical environment. Do you love your office? Do you have enough space to work and plan? Are you surrounded by attractive things? Do you have a nice view or at least a beautiful piece of art to look at? I paid a pretty penny for my condo, but I can't tell you how inspiring it is every day to look out at the all the golfers or take a short walk or drive to my peaceful ocean, sailboats, blue sky, and the sand. It fuels me.

But you don't have to spend a lot of money on your environment. Little touches like candles, flowers, music you love, and photos of friends and family can go a long way. (Even if your office is the kitchen table!)

Second, your emotional environment. Are you getting the support you need from your family and friends? It's up to YOU to ask for what you need.

If they cannot provide it, find a Mentor or coach, a mastermind, or a support group. I find it wonderful to have our Fast Track  mastermind group for support. I can bounce ideas off them, ask for help with problem solving, share my victories, and sometimes just vent!

Third, your intellectual environment. Jim Rohn says, "Are you feeding your brain protein every day, or are you just giving it candy?" Most Americans sustain their brains solely on candy - that is, useless television shows, news, and gossip. Are you stimulating yourself with big ideas and new learning? Again, check out a seminar, take a Veretekk class, or buy some books or audio programs. (I love listening to programs on CD or iPod, so I can learn while taking a walk or driving my car or relaxing on a plane.)

REMEMBER, "THE MORE YOU LEARN THE MORE YOU LEARN"

Remember - 97% of the people marketing today are full of excuses and live their lives thru tragedy and self created disappointment!

13. Procrastination Marketing -- It Actually Works!

I'm guessing that right now there are several marketing tasks you've been putting off. Perhaps it's revamping your website. Or sending out your first e-zine. Or getting listed in the search engines. Or putting together a media kit.

So why haven't you done it?

Believe me, this is a battle I fight with myself too. But you know what I realized?

Procrastination is NOT evil!

Instead of seeing procrastination as a terrible thing, I now see it as a tool that helps me learn how I work best.

In fact, I've arrived at six different reasons why we all seem to procrastinate. Here they are, along with what you can learn from (and do for) each.

Reason 1: You are procrastinating because you don't enjoy the entire task or job.

Solution: One of my Mentors told me several years ago that if I didn't like doing something, I should "delete it, delegate it, or automate it." What a great way to look at things! I'm a big fan of ONLY doing tasks I enjoy or am good at. The rest I outsource to people who are good at it and/or enjoy it.

Reason 2: You are procrastinating because you don't enjoy a PART of the entire task or job.

Solution: If you're putting off a whole project just because there's one part you don't want to do, figure out how you can get away without doing that part. Again, delete it, delegate it, or automate it.

Reason 3: You are procrastinating because you don't know how to handle the task or job.

Solution: The answer will not drop in your lap. Get help -- a Mentor to teach you how, a book or home study course to show you how, or even better, outsource it to someone who can just do it for you.

Reason 4: You are procrastinating because you simply can't find the time.

Solution: Schedule future time to do it, or get rid of other tasks to create the time you need. If you still can't do this, then you need to find someone to do it for you.

Reason 5: You are procrastinating because you feel stuck.

Solution: You may just need to get momentum going. Give yourself permission to do just one small part of the project only. Or do the easiest part first. (That's how I started putting together my entire Mentoring course.) This usually creates momentum, and you end up doing a lot more than you intended to!

Reason 6: You are procrastinating because you don't really want to do what you thought you should do.

Solution: This means you may have the wrong objective or strategy in the first place! Is this something you really want to do, or do you just think you SHOULD do it? Or is it an old goal that doesn't fit you or your business anymore? Your answer may surprise you. Let the goal go for awhile and see what happens. : )

Start Paying Attention!

Once you start paying attention to which activities you put off regularly, you'll know sooner when to be stricter with yourself or find help to get those tasks accomplished in a more timely manner.

So take a minute and make your list right now of what marketing tasks you've been putting off! Don't beat yourself up about it, just make a note and figure out how to get them done. (Or delete them and find an alternative to help you reach the same goal.)

It`s an old, old saying, but it`s true: you only have one chance to make a good first impression. And in email, the first impression is always visual -- a consumer LOOKS/SEES before he/she READS.

Imagine walking by a grotesquely garish storefront with all kinds of things hanging off the front porch, every floor painted a different color, and odd music playing through loudspeakers. Would you want to walk in the front door? No way! You`d assume that the owner is a kook, at best, or a deranged axe murderer, at worst.

Did you ever have an ugly looking email land in your mailbox? You know what I`m talking about: an orange background and yellow borders, multi-colored text in all sizes from gigantic to microscopic, a message that looks like it was created by a crazed six-year-old? If you did, I bet you didn`t feel the urge to read it. You probably just wanted to delete it as quickly as possible.

=> PUT OUT THE WELCOME MAT

You want your email message to be friendly and inviting, not bizarre and scary. The suggestions below -- and they`re just suggestions, not hard and fast rules -- will go a long way towards making recipients` eyes say "come on in!" to your message.

=> DO`s and DON`Ts FOR ATTRACTIVE EMAILS

-DON`T use COLOR fonts in your message. (Leave that to junior high girls who want to write about Britney and Justin)

-DO use BLACK TEXT ON A WHITE BACKGROUND. (When  you`re "speaking" in black-and-white, people will give their full attention to your message without being distracted by your color scheme.)

-DON`T use UNCOMMON FONTS. (If someone`s system doesn`t recognize the font you`ve selected, they could see gibberish
instead of your brilliant message).

-DO use the email marketers` FAVORITE FONTS: Arial, Times New Roman, and Courier New

And please.

-DON`T use flashing buttons or banners in your email! (Your prospects have undoubtedly gotten their fill of "bells and whistles" when they`ve surfed the Internet. They don`t need more from you.)

=> GET HYPER" WITH EMAIL HYPERLINKS

An "email hyperlink" is just techno-talk for a link in your email to a website, or email address. Sounds simple enough, and it is -- unless you try to contact a prospect on AOL who may not be able to receive "clickable" links.

Don`t worry. There`s a "Fix" for this: simply type mailto: in front of your email address (no space in between, and include the : )

For a link to a web page, you need to write your link this way: < a href=http://www.leadgeneration.24ex.com/ >
http://www.leadgeneration.24ex.com/ </a>. .

(And tell your recipient they can copy and paste this link into their browser if it`s not highlighted.)

=> ALWAYS USE SIGNATURE TAGS

Today, it`s common practice on the Internet to tell people about your product or service with a SIGNATURE TAG, which is 3-6 lines of text (usually) that is automatically added to every message you send.

If you`d like to add a tag to your messages, simply open your email program. Find the SIGNATURES TAB (located in the TOOLS/OPTIONS menu in Outlook Express). Follow the (simple) instructions for creating a sig file. Easy as pie...and the results
will amaze you.

In today`s newsletter, you`re going to learn THE BASICS OF EMAIL MARKETING.

Now I know what you`re thinking: Basics don`t sound very exciting or "empowering." But the basics are the foundation upon which everything else is built. Miss these and you may end up spinning your wheels for the next 12 months.

(Wouldn`t you rather be spinning stories about how you made your first million?)

So find a comfortable spot, put up your feet and let`s get ready to rumble!

Essential Rules For Effective Email Marketing

If you want an email campaign to succeed, you don`t want to offend anyone when sending your messages. Turn off a consumer with your email and you can be sure they`ll tune out your message. Don`t let this happen to you!

A message that earns respect makes sales. That`s why our first topic for discussion is email etiquette. (Later in the course, we`ll talk more about how to write an email sales letter.)

Train yourself to always -- and I mean ALWAYS -- stick to the rules below when crafting your email message.

=> RULE #1 - ALWAYS WRAP YOUR LINES AT 65 CHARACTERS OR LESS

Whenever you write an email, always format the lines so that they`re 65 characters, or less, across. To do this, you may need to do a "hard return" by hitting "Enter" at the end of the line.

Wondering why to limit your lines to just 65 characters?

(Good question! It shows you`re thinking.) There are two reasons that "less is more"

-- The first thing to remember is that looking at a computer screen for a long time causes EYE FATIGUE for many readers.

The shorter span of characters across the screen makes reading easier and more appealing to the recipient of your email message.

-- The other reason to go short instead of long is this: some email clients AUTOMATICALLY ENFORCE LINE-WRAPPING at 60-65 characters on received messages. If your email is wrapped at 70, the content will arrive all "chopped up."

This makes it unattractive...and worse -- unappealing.

-- Tip within a Rule #1: Email clients such as Outlook Express allow you to SET THE LINE-WRAP to any character-width you choose. That means you won`t have to hit enter each time after typing 65 characters. Makes life easier!

-- Tip within a Rule #2 - You can type 65 asterisks or dashes in a Notepad file to create a template. Then paste your email below it to see if any lines extend too far to the right.

=> RULE # 2 - BE CAREFUL USING ALL CAPS

How many times have you changed the TV channel to avoid listening to a screaming car salesperson? No one likes a screaming salesperson...and no one likes a "screaming" email message, either. Odds are, when someone has over-amped the volume of their message by using too many capital letters (not to mention too many exclamation points and other punctuation) - you`re going to be turned off.

On the Internet, email messages written in all caps are considered yelling. It`s okay to write some sentences and some words in all caps, but don`t go overboard. (As you can see in this message, I`ve tried to use capital letters to help break up sections of the content from time to time)

-- Tip within a Rule: Consumers buy from a source they trust. Emails in all caps are perceived as "shady" or uneducated, and have an appearance that damages the credibility of an offer.

=> RULE #3 - WATCH YOUR Ps & Qs (Spelling and Grammar) Would you be influenced by an email selling you something that had noticeable spelling and grammar mistakes? Sure you would...and the influence would be negative, not positive!

When a consumer reads a sales message that`s filled with errors, they think to themselves, "Good grief, this person doesn`t even take the time to get his emails right. His product is probably the same quality as his emails."

When you`re in business, YOUR IMAGE IS YOUR REPUTATION and your reputation is the reason people buy from you or the guy down the block. It`s essential that you create an image of INTEGRITY, CREDIBILITY, and HONESTY in the mind of your prospects. Sending emails filled with errors doesn`t hurt your professional image...it destroys it. (Ouch!)

Is this not the MOST annoying and brainless statement you’ve ever heard, especially if you haven’t a clue how to launch your business into orbit?
 
The idea that positive thinking will solve ALL your business problems has to be one of the most damaging “messing with your brain” lies yet.
 
Get this: the reason this lie is so powerful is because they can always get away with it!
 
It’s the perfect scapegoat. As long as you believe in this flimflam they don’t have to know what they’re talking about, or give you any real concrete answers. How’s that for brilliant?
 
That’s why uplines, downlines, and crosslines use this stopgap.
 
Because the truth is, they haven’t a clue why most people in their business aren’t making it.
 
Millions have been given this magnificent “half-truth” bit of knowledge and really haven’t seen much of a change.
 
So what are you supposed to do?
 
**Risk life and limb driving everywhere with earphones stuck in your head, packing your brain with the content of every motivational CD you can get your hands on. If it doesn’t put you to sleep or distract you into a fender-bender, maybe you’ll even retain a morsel or two of it.
 
**Decorate your home with fluorescent post-it notes stuck on everything from the living room lamps to your bathroom mirror, scribbled with motivational quotes and “verging on desperate” declarations of your goals to “motivate” you. Your family may be confused, but hey…maybe
it’ll work.
 
**Attend every rah-rah session within 100 miles of your home and spend enormous amounts on gas and hotel bills – this will have you pumped uplike the Goodyear Blimp and raring to go for the next week…at least until you get to the parking lot.
 
Hold on a just a stinkin’ minute!
 
Does this make any sense? Is this one thing going to get your business on the right track for success?
 
Of course not!
 
Listen, we are ALL for the power of your mind helping fuel your success.
 
It’s hugely important, and the lack of the right mindset can definitely keep you from achieving your full potential.
 
But it must be joined with ACTION! The unrelenting application of repeatable, sustainable, and effective action is key.
 
The truth is, if you’re building a profitable and lasting business, you’re going to need a full-fledged, muscular marketing system as your     foundation. That’s the only way you’ll see the results you’re looking for.
 
They may trickle in at first, but soon you’ll have a flowing river.
 
And when this occurs, you’ll find plenty to be positive about! Keeping your mindset dialed up to prosperity and abundance will become second nature.

23. This Thing Sells Itself!

Frankly, this could very well be on of the dirtiest little lies in the entire industry.

Reality Check: Nothing sells itself. You can have the most incredible, cream of the crop product on the market, but unless you’re using a full-on marketing system to get your message out there, no one will know about it.

Case in point: Remember the recent hysteria about the launch of the iPhone?

Apple is about as smart and savvy as it gets. But they certainly didn’t depend on throwing some iPhones out on a table and waiting for the world to figure it all out.

They launched a virtual blizzard of marketing strategies, specifically designed and implemented to get their crowd worked into a “camping out for days in advance” FRENZY to get their mitts on an iPhone.

Nothing accidental about it--nothing left to chance. Super gorgeous, fun and innovative product, that most definitely and absolutely did NOT sell itself.

So consider this…do you seriously think ANY product you have will magically draw a feverish herd of buyers?

That’s just silly.

Yet somewhere along the line, the thinking that simply buying into a product was enough to make you successful has latched onto the collective minds of network marketers.

How Did This Happen?

It’s like this…

Just over 60 years ago Network Marketing was introduced to the world and things haven’t been the same since.

Folks with “employee” mentalities, and absolutely no business experience, were suddenly in business, literally overnight sometimes.

One day they were a teacher, mechanic, or secretary, the next day, an Entrepreneur.

These clueless souls were told they’d be making more money than their boss, their parents, their doctor--more money than they’d ever seen in their lives! And, the really “magical” part was, they didn’t have to do anything but “show their friends and families, because this THING (whatever it was) would sell itself!”

And maybe that even worked for a few times, or a few months…but eventually (as you may have already discovered) things fizzle out.

There is no foundation, no LEGS, under this kind of approach to building a business. Pretty soon, you’re on the scrap heap of failure, thinking you just weren’t cut out to be in business for yourself.

It’s the same B.S. today as it was then.

The “follow me clones” rinse and repeat this stuff, because that’s what they were told so it has to be true. And on it goes, creating a kind of historical subculture and twisted expectation about how this all should work.

The upline tells the downline.  The downline tells their prospects. Their prospects tell their friends. Everyone is excited about how much money they’re going to make, with very little effort and absolutely NO understanding of how marketing works in the real world.

It snowballs--taking on a life of it’s own and growing bigger every day.

And the next thing you know this “snowball” becomes an avalanche of disappointment that has you running for your life, trying to keep your hopes and dreams from being buried alive.

All you need is love? Oh wait, that's a song...

Hey, remember the Beatles song? “All You Need Is Love”…la-ta-da-da-da”

Nice song, nice message, but unfortunately, not that simple in real life, or in real business

FACT: A robust and sustainable business takes a whole lot more to run than what you’ve probably been led to believe.

Look, unless you just fell off the turnip truck, this is so basic it’s ridiculous:
